Harrisburg, Pennsylvania — Secretary George Hartwick drew attention to himself during today’s Dauphin County Commissioners’ meeting when he instigated a tit-for-tat dispute with Vice-Chairman Mike Pries that perpetuated into an exchange of sharp remarks about the massive tax increase in Dauphin County.

Commissioner Pries eventually responded after hearing out Secretary Hartwick’s political theatrics. “You are the architect of the largest tax increase in Dauphin County history,” Pries said of Hartwick at today’s public meeting.

Pries criticized Hartwick’s refusal to own the tax increase when he had the opportunity to lead as chairman of the board. Commissioner Justin Douglas agreed that proposed budget cuts were not considered by Hartwick.

“You failed as chairman. You’re no longer chairman. Live with it,” Pries reminded Hartwick.

Pries apologized to the audience for the unpleasantries of the public dispute, and insisted that the board, “was elected to lead, and govern, and it’s still not occurring.”
